Shopify Campaign Autopilot is live. Here's how to use it best

Shopify has released Campaign Autopilot, an AI feature that sets up and runs ads and email for you straight from the admin panel. We like it. It's exactly the kind of tool that makes our job better, not redundant. Below we walk through what Autopilot actually does, who gets access right now, and how to get the most out of it, whether you run it yourself or let us take the whole job.

TL;DR: Shopify Campaign Autopilot sets up and runs ads and email automatically from the Shopify admin. It's in early access with several requirements, and the Shop Campaigns channel is closed to Nordic stores. It allocates budget and manages campaigns, but it doesn't create new creative content and doesn't decide who you should talk to. Strategy still decides, whether you run Autopilot yourself or let us do it.

What is Shopify Campaign Autopilot?

Campaign Autopilot is an AI feature in the Shopify admin that plans and runs marketing for you across Meta, Shop and email.

You set a budget and rules, and the tool builds campaigns and adjusts them along the way. It connects to your channels, creates a new Meta ad account if you don't already have one, sets up email automations such as abandoned cart, allocates budget where it sees opportunity, and adjusts based on what works. You decide how much control you hand over, from approving every single campaign to letting Autopilot run more on its own.

The feature itself costs nothing beyond the ad spend you'd have anyway. More channels are announced during 2026, including ChatGPT Ads, Microsoft Advertising and Snapchat.

Who gets access right now?

Autopilot is in early access and only available to certain stores, not a general launch.

To use it, the store must be on a Shopify plan other than the Agentic plan, have Shopify Payments activated as its payment solution, and your user must have Marketing access on the account. The requirements are described in Shopify's own Help Center.

The Shop Campaigns channel additionally requires a business address in the US or Canada with USD or CAD as the default currency. That channel is therefore closed to Nordic stores, regardless of whether you get access to Autopilot itself.

What Autopilot automates, and what it doesn't

Autopilot automates distribution and budget management. It doesn't create new creative content.

The tool uses the images and product catalog you already have. What Autopilot takes over:

  • Budget allocation across Meta, Shop and email

  • Campaign setup and technical structuring

  • Ongoing adjustment based on what performs

  • Automated email sequences such as abandoned cart and abandoned browse

What Autopilot doesn't do: it doesn't figure out who you should really talk to, and it doesn't generate new ad images. Shopify says it plainly itself: the tool uses the product images and catalog you already have, it doesn't come up with anything creative on its own.

Here's how we work with Autopilot, not against it

We're not afraid that a tool like Autopilot will take our job. We use AI in most of what we already deliver, from ad angles to reporting, and a tool that allocates budget and runs campaigns automatically is one less thing everyone has to do manually. That's good news for you, and good news for us.

What still decides whether the campaign actually works is the right audience, the right angle and the right promise. That's where the money is made or lost, no matter how well the budget is allocated afterwards. It's also where we spend most of our time with clients, and it's the same job we do in the ads we run for clients, regardless of who ultimately presses the buttons in Shopify.

Two ways to work with Autopilot

  • Yourself, with our help: We set up your strategy, angles and audiences, and teach you or your team to run Autopilot yourselves from there.

  • Fully hands-off: We take the whole job, from strategy to actually running Autopilot in the Shopify admin, and report the results to you.

Both are fully valid. Some clients want to understand and own the process themselves, others simply want to not think about it. We don't build our business on our clients being dependent on us for things a machine does just fine on its own.

What this means for Norwegian online stores

Invest your time where it actually pays off: who you talk to, and what you say to them. Let the automation, yours or ours, handle the rest.

For a small online store without a marketing lead, Autopilot can be exactly what's needed to get started on your own, once access arrives. For a business that wants to grow past the first phase, the question quickly becomes how well the underlying strategy actually holds, since Autopilot optimizes exactly what you give it, good or bad.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't I see Campaign Autopilot in my Shopify admin?

Autopilot is in early access and rolls out gradually, not to everyone at once. Check that Shopify Payments is activated as your payment solution (not just available in your country), that the store isn't on the Agentic plan, and that your user has Marketing access. Even with everything in place, you may still be in the rollout queue.

Is Shopify Campaign Autopilot free?

The feature itself costs nothing beyond ad spend, but it isn't freely available yet. Autopilot is in early access, and your store must activate Shopify Payments and meet the plan and access requirements to get access.

Which channels does Campaign Autopilot support?

At launch: Meta ads, Shop Campaigns and email automations. Shop Campaigns requires a business address in the US or Canada, so that channel isn't available to Nordic stores. Shopify has announced ChatGPT Ads, Microsoft Advertising and Snapchat as upcoming channels in 2026.

Can Campaign Autopilot make ad images for me?

No. Autopilot builds and allocates campaigns, but only uses the product images and catalog you've already uploaded. It doesn't generate new creative material on its own.

Does Campaign Autopilot replace the need for a marketing agency?

No, and it doesn't need to. Autopilot and an agency solve different parts of the job. We happily use tools like this ourselves, both when we run campaigns for clients and when we train clients to run it themselves.
